Review and Analysis of Bergans Letto V2 Jacket
Introduction
I have extensively used the Letto V2 jacket by Bergans during both summer and winter alpine climbs, as well as frequent hikes. This 3-layer shell jacket has been my go-to outer layer for diverse weather conditions (wind, rain, and snow) as well as for different types of activities (rock climbing, alpine climbs, hikes or treks).
Advantages & Why I Like it
It all starts with weather protection: the Letto V2’s 3-layer Dermizax® fabric delivers outstanding waterproofing with a water column of at least 20,000 mm. This feature has kept me dry and comfortable during intense rain or sleet, making it highly suitable for alpine environments where weather conditions can change rapidly. An important part here is Letto’s very good windproof performance. The next point worth mentioning is high breathability. This is achieved through a combination of the membrane as well as the long underarm zip vents, combined with mesh front pockets. Next, in terms of the sturdiness against rocks, Letto V2 has proven its durability, thanks to its obviously quite durable material. It also has thoughtful design elements like articulated elbows, stagged shoulders, or side seams. The inclusion of pre-bent elbows enhances freedom of movement, a critical aspect during challenging climbs that demand a wide range of motion. Staggered shoulders and side seams do not only prevents wear and tear but also enhance overall comfort, especially when carrying a backpack. The fixed hood with adjustment at the back and reinforced brim provides extra protection during adverse weather conditions, ensuring that rain and snow do not impair visibility. The tailored sleeve closure with Velcro wrist adjustment and the one-hand elastic drawstring at the hem allow for a personalized fit, preventing drafts and maintaining comfort during dynamic activities. Finally, the jacket is lightweight and packable, which is of obvious advantages.
An important aspect to bear in mind is the fact that the fit of this jacket is less slim than in highly technical garments. This however, I see as an advantage towards the jacket’s larger versatility: one can easily wear midlayer underneath, for cold conditions. Moreover, the less technical outfit makes it more comfortable during longer treks or hikes.
In summary, Letto is a versatile jacket to be used both for demanding climbs but also more standard hikes, treks, or just running around.
